However, it is perhaps an idea to list some of the one off activities and events that Durban is associated with in 2005, some of these events may have passed by the time you read this, however, they do give a flavor of Durban and its surroundings can offer.
Golf enthusiasts may be interested in The South African Airways Open Championship held in Durban County Club; a fun filled family day out is guaranteed in the Umgababa beach Festival; The Mid Mar dam is the location for the world's biggest inland swimming race - over 10,000 entrants can be expected. The oldest canoe marathon race in Africa takes place from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. In June there's a conference of International Cleft Palate & Craniofacial Anomalies; Classic Car fans may like to attend the Zululand Car Club for an exhibition of classic cars; The town of Eshowe has a soap box derby; Empangeni has a Sugar Carnival; sports fans may like the Bozas rugby cup; The 21 Species Fishing Festival held in Richard's Bay is as its name suggests, a festival for those who like fishing; finally many conventions such as A Suicide Prevention Conference takes place in the International Conference Centre.
